Brain matters

I made a few zombie feelings but when they came out of the kiln, the 'brain' came loose. That's because I didn't add enough clay slib while making them.
Hmm... I needed to find a solution to fix it. I didn't want to throw the bottom pieces away as they do take some time to make. But because they are already fired, they turned into ceramics so a clay slib won't do to fix it. So, I just added some glaze to it and put new brain on it wit my clay gun. When the glaze will melt, the clay will stick into it like glue.
So hopefully I can add some zombie feelings to my shop soon! :)

  5. Hi, I was wondering what type of clay/ceramic substance you use because, as you can see from my brilliant choice of words, I don't know much about this stuff but lately I've become really interested in it. I also really like the colour of the substance (not sure what to call it)you use when it is unglased (I wont be able to invest in glazes straight away, I don't think). So I was just wonder what it is called so I could do som research. Thanks.

  6. Chelsea, I use WBB Vingerling K123 clay which is a light colored clay with an addition of 0 to 0,5 pieces of chamotte. Chamotte are teeny tiny pieces of fired clay which are mixed with the unfired clay to give it more body. People who throw at the weel will not easily use clay with chamotte in it as it will hurt on their hands while throwing.
For me, the clay which has only a tiny bit of chamotte is perfect.
I like smooth surfaces but clay without any chamotte doesn't hold enough shape for me.

  11. Well you could call them 'no brainer' feelings and the description can say, 'the brain is placed on the feeling and when you need an answer to a question you just take the brain off and you might just get inspired into a no brainer answer' :oP
