My creative space

Today will be mainly filled with non creative things. It's a bit sad as I have so much bubbling in my head.
The other day, my neighbor helped me draft a pattern from my favorite dress & I bought fabric yesterday. I had my eye on this beautiful petrol bleu jersey/knit fabric & I hope that I can cut it out tonight after my sewing class. I want to sew this dress next weekend.
I'm way too ambitious when it comes to sewing I think - as I can barely sew a straight line... But then I think: if I won't try, I won't know if I can do it so I just go with my instincts! :)

Things have been too hectic around here & I need a break so today I'm taking my walking boots out. I need to absorb fall in all it's glory, seach for mushrooms, capture the colors & enjoy a brisk walk. I find being outdoors uplifting and healing.
I need some positive energy to get myself through busy times. I'll also take my camera to play a bit.

My space is full of stuff at the moment. I'm prepping things for my next fair this Saturday: the crafty market in Amsterdam. Things have been really hectic around here the past week and I kind of don't know where to start first. And I know it will continue to be hecic for a few more weeks so I better find a way to stay cool...
I'll be wrapping up things tommorrow and together with Annemiek we go to invade Marta's home for the weekend.
On Friday we have an Etsy meeting in Amsterdam - can't wait to see my Etsy friends again. The fair is on Saturday from 1pm till 9pm. It's my first outdoor market in fall and I just hope the weather gods will be nice to us.

Today I'm making a start on an order for Tokketok. She's up to some great things I think and I can't wait to see what she'll do with it all. She also send me a beautiful metal stamp to make my life a easier. Joke is a Belgian girl living in Portland, US and she's such a sweetie. I hope I get to meet her next time she's in Belgium as it doesn't look like I'll be going to Portland anytime soon! :)
She also made me make these and I think they are absolutely fabulous.

Today I go back to class... feels weird to start a course again but I'm really looking forward to it.
I'll be doing a course which is called 'tailor without prior knowledge' and they asked to bring a sewing machine and the manual along. I'm a bit embarrased to tell 'em I haven't even flipped through the manual yet. I just sew. So I think it's good that someone will guide me in the right direction as who knows where it would lead me otherwise.

I also feel a bit stressed today as I have a very busy week and can hardly keep up with everything at the moment. I'm looking forward to a slow next week! :)

Today I'll be shipping off the work that was done at my workshop a few weeks back. It's about time after 2 weeks. I love how it all came out & can't wait to see what the ladies will do with it all after they receive it.

Do you remember I did some experiments with dipping thread into porcelain and twisting it around paper beads? Here are the results from that:The beads didn't come out really well, the thread is broken on the spot where I placed it on the kiln shelf. But they are quite sturdy I must say which is a complete surprise to me. I'll place 'em on some silversand next time so that they don't touch the shelves and hope that will make 'em whole.I also did a few beads with solid clay around the paperbead and then added a texture to them. They came out really sturdy and are light as a feather.
In the left hand corner you see the left over of a bead where I twisted thread around and then dipped it into porcelain slib.

This morning I woke up to an e-mail in where Veerle from Nevousinstallezpas asked me to make something. Since I had planned playing with porcelain the entire day, I got to it right away.
I also have some porcelain work to finish for Anna from LilaRubyKing for our collaborative work. I think I'll be having fun today.

My space is exceptionally colorful this week. I just got my wool from the attic and it makes me happy looking at all the colors. I'm not going to start felting again but I was asked to give a little workshop in the neighborhood tommorrow. They organised a market were a few creative souls let people be creative with them and get to know each other. They were kind of desperate to find people willing to give a little workshop so I agreed to help 'em out. I'll be felting little soaps and beads with people who would like to learn. I hope the weather will be nice so we can do it outside. Today I'll be making some samples so people can see what the end result is like.

Today I'm doing some prep work for moulding. I want the moulds to be dry sometime next week so that I can use 'em for a tutorial I want to make. It's been a while since I posted a tutorial so I thought it would be good to get back into the groove again.
Summertime, bliss, but it's making me slack! ;)

Today I have a lot of computer work to do. It's always risky as I tend to dwell off to more interesting places like Twitter, Etsy or my blogger Dashboard.
But stuff needs to get done so I better not dwell today.
Note that I'm an avid Azerty-typer. My partner is Dutch and has a Qwerty-keyboard which totally freaks me out if I have to type on it.

The past few days I have been doing preparation work in the feeling factory. I made bases for my feelings and smoothened them out. Now the fun part begins: making an actual feeling from it. I always have a list of feelings to make and I always start with the easiest ones...
Do you do that too? The easy jobs first? Sometimes I think I should do it the other way around as by the time I'm starting on the last ones and I think it's nearly done, it always takes me forever...

A little while ago I've been asked to make some special porcelain beads. So today I'm taking out the porcelain and decided to experiment a bit. It has been a while since I've been experimenting. I'm determined to work with thread and I'm dipping it into porcelain slib and twist it around paper beads. Don't know where this will lead me and if it will work out but that's why it's called 'experiment'... I also have a few other ideas I want to give a try and it's heaps of fun to experiment!

I made moulds the past weekend.
Messy business in my studio. Picture plaster everywhere.
I planned to fire a kiln and I wanted 'em to be ready so I could place 'em on top of the kiln. Even though a kiln is well isolated, it looses warmth while firing and this way I use the warmth to dry my moulds. I made the moulds from polystyreen spheres and they are not completely smooth on the inside so I'll use some very thin sanding paper to make 'em smooth.
Perfect activity to do outside today. But early as it's going to be freakin' hot again.

My creative space got invaded by my niece and her friend who decided that I would make 'em lunch while they were shopping in the city. They are 12 and came to the 'big' city by bus (45 minutes) and I think it's mighty cute that they dropped by. So I made 'em pancakes with sirop, jam, Nutella, sugar, strawberries and icecream. They loved it and so did I. Today I really need to get a package ready for the fashion museum with some other things they will put in their shop. I need to sand the religious feelings and package some more happy girls. While my Dutch partner is putting out the Dutch flag, I get reminded that we go cheer for Holland tonight at a friends place. And I also need to prepare a Merry go round post for tommorrow which will be a tutorial. Busy, busy life!
I am behind on everything: flickr favorites, e-mail, work, looking at the treasuries, doing nothing,... I hope to catch up during the weekend! Sorry if you're waiting for a reply, life is a bit hectic right now.

Ha, it's only mid-day and it feels like I've been non-stop doing things. After doing some early cleaning this morning, I went shopping. Today I'll prepare some food for lunch at my craftparty tommorrow. Later this afternoon, Nicole from Babongohome will already come to stay. I hope to get a lot done before she comes so we can go out for some icecream and enjoy the nice weather and chat some time away. :)

Today I'll try to finish off a custom order I started last week. It's the feeling 'oneness' but with a heart centered on each babushka and a custom message on the bottom.
The second custom I'd like to finish is a bigger size memorial feeling and it needs a woodgrain texture. The customer send me a drawing of how she would like it to look so I'll do a test run on a slab of clay. The clay is still too soft so I placed it on a plaster plaque so it can extract the water from the clay and make it leatherhard. I could also use my blowdryer but the one I used for the studio died on me recently...

Not sure yet what it will contain, but it will be fun and festive.

Today is going to be packed! I'm trying to get lots done this week and I sometimes feel like a headless chicken running around doing it. This morning I'll try to decorate some tumblers with black stain so that they can dry while I go to a tea party at Mariana/Florcita's home in the afternoon. Then I'll be able to glaze 'em tonight and if I have enough, fill the kiln and fire it. And in between all that, I'll try to drop by at my suppliers too for more goodies. Poor wallet! :)
