How to link a tutorial?

I love making tutorials and share ideas. From the many comments and e-mails they get, it seems that you enjoy them too. My tutorials draw a lot of traffic to my blog which I love 'cause it makes me happy when people get inspired by projects or pictures & start getting crafty.
Sometimes, people write me to ask if it's OK if they link my tutorial in their blog. I love that!
However, I don't agree on copy/pasting the full tutorial. The tutorials do take a lot of time and effort to make so I don't want 'em to be copy/pasted just like that. It's OK to put one picture and redirect them to my blog to see the full process. It's fair to give the person behind the tutorial full credit for the work he/she put in there. If you copy/paste a tutorial without asking, I think it's considered theft. Stealing someone else's work is rude and impolite.

So this tutorial will show you how you can properly link to someone elses blog and give credit to the person who made the tutorial. Mind you, this is only for Blogger blogs as that's what I have. I'm sure it's just as easy for other blogs too.

Choose to make a new message for your blog. Give it a title that will draw immediate attention and start writing your message. To add a link to text you wrote, first you have to go to the tutorial that you want to link.Open the blogpost and copy the html by clicking the right mouse button and choose copy.
Now select the text that you want to link and press the link button on the toolbar.
Paste the link to the blogpost in the box and press OK. The text you linked will now show in a different color and will be underlined. That means that people can click on it and it will bring them directly to the full tutorial. You can also add a picture & give it a direct link to the tutorial. First thing you have to do is go to the blog and click with your right mouse button on the picture. Choose the option 'copy picture location'
Then go to your blogpost that you are writing and choose to add a picture to your post.
This window will open and then you post the link to the picture in the box. Do not paste html in here as it won't work, it needs to be the link to the location of the picture. Then press the button to upload the picture to your blog.
It will open another window and say that the picture is uploaded to your blog. Press ready.
Now the picture is visible in your blogpost. You can cut and paste it elsewhere if you like. When you're satisfied about how it looks, press the button 'publish' and your blogpost will be visible for the world.
Here is one of the blogs that I love: Totally Tutorials. It's hosted by Dottyral on Etsy and she collects all sorts of tutorials into one blog. She has a great way of sharing & does it the right way. Dotty has published several of my tutorials and it brings traffic to her and my blog & that's the way it should be.

Dream in progress... part 7

The progress on the Babette blanket is about halfway now. I finished all the four row squares.
It seems like it took me forever but hey, there are 49 of them and it covers a lot of space layed out like this:
And the most boring part is yet to come: sewing in the ends! Yikes! :)
I might need to take a break for a bit as I have run out of some colors of yarn & I tried to get them at our local yarnshop but they only had a few of the colors that I needed. So as soon as I go back to my big supply shop in Holland, I'll be crocheting away some more...
I did try to attach a few squares and I think with some trial and error I'll be able to make it a blanket.
This one I just sewed as I though I had to do it but the seams are supervisible. This one is crocheted together... I would love to crochet it together but again, the seams are very visible.
Pfft! I knew ther must be another way to do this, but which one?
Off to the Flickr group 'Babette Blanket' for some answers as I was sure I was not the only one with this question. Some people used the mattrass stitch. What's that? I'm a complete stitching illiterate so you tube was my saviour. But I could see seams still...The search goes on and I found a blog where the Kathy Merrick tells the secret how she does it.
A step by step tutorial, just what I needed! :)
But OMG, I didn't realise that here would be so much sewing involved, I think I would have thought twice about this... :)

Work in progress

The past few day I have been having fun with the mould I made the other day. I bought this bucket of liquid porcelain clay a few months ago & I have been eager to use it.
I experimented with coloring the porcelain clay with oxides and stains & I generally fooled around like a happy girl. I just love experimenting and the hardest part will be the waiting of these pieces to be fired.
I'm also making a slightly bigger mould to make bigger cups - I think I'm one of the people who will need a bigger cup. Are you a small or a big cup-person? :)
In a few days I will post the process of how to use this liquid porcelain clay - I was too busy playing to get pics for a tutorial! ;)
Oh, and the kitchenfloor is not liking me for playing around... And yesterday, Staci & Alex from 26 Olive Street wrote me that they featured one of my greeting cards in a Storque article about colormatch. A feature that allows you to upload one of your own pictures, add some tags to it & then it will go search Etsy for items in the same color hues. If you are a colorfreak like me, you are going to love this! Make sure to read the Storque article on Etsy.
Check out their shop too - it has unbelievable pictures of their items and is just freakin' cool!

My creative space

My creative space is the couch this morning. I have been working on my Babette blanket over the past weeks and now the project is halfway, I'm already looking into new projects to work on.
My partner brought me some crochet books from the library yesterday & I just can't believe one of those books. It seems to contain thousands of stitches so I still have a long way to go.
It's also difficult to read them because they are in Dutch. Although Dutch is my mother tongue, I learned to crochet in English from Tara & I got used to the English names and abbreviations of the stitches.Weird huh?I also have been wanting to incorporate crochet into ceramics, so I made my first experiment. I crocheted a flower and a little test square and put some liquid porcelain clay onto it. I'll fire it sometime soon & hope that the thread fires away & that the stiches remain in porcelain - to be continued...

Want to show your creative space? Hop over to Kootoyoo's to play! It's fun! :)

Feeling postcards

When I was working on the 99-feeling project, I often got asked if I would print any of the pictures onto postcards. I love snail mail and I do think that feeling postcards would be a fun card to send someone. As I won't be able to invest in all 99 feelings at once, I have decided to start off with 6 cards. It was hard to choose which ones though but I think with these 6, one can cover a lot of occasions... What do you think? Is there any missing that you think: 'I would want to send that particular feeling?' :)
I can still change my mind as I only just now sent out some price inquieries for printing. :) Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
Can't tell yet when they will be available but if you subscribe to my newsletter or blog, you'll find out first! :)

Flickr favorites

1. 009|365 Coffee ~ Daily Routines, 2. mmm... coffee..., 3. Taste, Smell and Sight - COFFEE, 4. Coffee? / Un cafetito?

Created with fd's Flickr Toys.

Holy cow, it's tuesday again. Can't believe time goes so fast but I'm glad to share some of my Flickr favorites. Actually I found these using the search term 'coffee' on Flickr.
Jip, my daily fix is certainly coffee. I think this addiction is my mom's fault. She used to eat coffeebeans while being pregnant of me and I loved chewing on them when I was a child.
Coffee is a big thing for me and I usually drink it with a sky of milk so jip, a latte really.
And did you know that I'm obsessed with how the handle of the mug looks? I need to be able to stick three of my fingers in there so I can warm my hands when it's cold. And if that's not possible, I prefer a mug without a handle.
What is your fix of the day? And can you show me in a mosaic ?

If you like to play this week, make your mosaic and add a link to your blog or Flickr in Mister Linky. I'll pop over to have a look at yours. Can't wait to see your creations! :)
I hope Mister Linky will behave good this week...

Results sample tiles & wall art

I was superpleased when I opened the kiln last week. The sample tiles I fired came out super nice. Even though it takes a lot of time to make samples, it is very important to know how it will look on different structures and textures. It makes future work so much easier.

Colored clay slib or engobe

Oxides

New colors oxides.
The last one on this row is a mixture of cobalt an black and it gives a great purple.

The wall art came out nice too. I do regret that I colored the babuschka blue on the free fall tile though. I think it turned out too blue. Some of these will have a second firing with oxides so they will have a different background.
