Hoera, hip handwerk!

Yesterday it was open monuments day in Belgium. This means that lots of museums an monuments are open to the public. The city I live in has a fashion museum and runs great exhibitions. The exhibition this time is called 'in her shoes' and the amount of shoes they host can compete with Imelda Marcos' collection I think.

In the main hall of the museum Kristien & Kim organised this cozy fair called 'Hoera, Hip Handwerk' (Hurry, Hip Handmade).
For people who came to visit the museum, it was a nice surprise to see all the colorful creations in the main hall & enjoy the lovely atmosphere. What a beautiful location to have a fair.
Since the hall couldn't host many stands, there were not so many participants.
Want to walk around the fair with me? (I forgot to take a few business cards of some participants so I'll add links to their websites later on)

Inspiration + experiment = creation

Last week, I was reading one of my favorite blogs 'The red thread' by Lisa Tilse. I love to visit it because it's an amazing source of inspiration, it bursts of creativity & it has this whimsical twist that I love! Last monday I bumped into this post that inspired me to make this...

a paper boat
a fabric boat drenched in clay slib
a kiln fired ceramic boatDo you think I will need to take up origami soon? :)

Happy sunday everyone!

Dream in progress... part 11

Time to update you on the progress of my Babette blanket. I finished crocheting the remaining three 6-round squares. When I put them away in my box I saw all the thread ends screaming at me. So I decided to sew in all the ends before I would continue crocheting on the last 7 8-round squares. I'll be doing lots more sewing when putting the blanket together so I'm just spreading it a bit. If anyone is starting a blanket, I advise you to sew in all ends after every round! :) But I can't show you the done pile yet, as I have been too busy claying this week.
Hopefully finished piles next week! :)

I created a Babette blanket set on Flickr so you can see the progress all together! :)

How to make a halloween ghost?

Halloween is still some time away but most people start decorating a few weeks before already. I wanted to share this fun project with you. It's easy to make and it's a great result for decorating your window sill or cabinet. I'm sure lots of kiddies will enjoy making these ghosts. Boo!
Here is what you need:
plaster, little plastic container, clothespeg, wooden stick, water in a container,
plaster bandages, wire, paper balls (1 large & 2 smaller ones), scissors, sharpie marker
Make some plaster. Use 1/3 water and 2/3 plaster.
Poor the plaster in the little plastic container.
Add the wooden stick in the middle of the container.
To hold it there you can let a clothespeg rest on the container.
While the plaster in the container is setting, cut up pieces of plaster.
Make some big (20cm or 7,5") and some smaller ones (10cm or 4")

Take the plastic container around the plaster away.Punch with your scissors a hole in the biggest paper ball.Put the paper ball on top of the wooden stick.
Twist some wire around the stick and
add the smaller paper balls on the ends.

Dip the plaster band into a bit of water and gently
rub over it so that the holes fill itself with plaster.

Drape the plaster bands over the paper balls.
Continue draping more plaster bands over the wire too.
Let it dry for a while.
And add a happy face to it! This ghost is not so scary, is it? :)
You can make these in any size you like. If yo like to make a huge one, I advise you to dip old sheets into plaster. You will have to work quick then because the plaster will set fast.
Happy Halloween! :)

My creative space

This week, you can find my creative space on ShareSomeCandy. I loved taking some snapshots of my studio. The ladder looks kind of weird perhaps but my workspace is actually above our kitchen. It's very small so I have to organise everything well in order not to get totally crazy.
But I just love the fact that I'm always in the kitchen! :)
If you want to see mor pics of my studio, hop over here)

Want to show your creative space? Hop over to Kootoyoo's to play! It's fun! :)

And please take a minute to vote for my friend Nathalie's picture (aka DinaFragola). She's a bit crazy. Jip, crazy about Crocs.
And she has NO SHOES. (pity always works)
So this is her chance to win a pair every week - a whole year long!
Please vote for her picture here:

NO registration, JUST ONE CLICK!
It is by far the most beautiful picture in the whole lot so she just really deserves it!

The secret project... work in progress

For a long time, I have been wanting to incorporate the braille alphabet into my ceramics. When I have an idea, I always try to think of a title for the project as then I can refer to it more easily in my head. Besides, I like it when a work has a title but that's another discussion...
This project was going to be called 'With your hands you see more...' although I like the sound of that better in my native tongue Dutch: 'Met je handen zie je meer...'
Anyway, when my secret collaborative partner and I were exchanging ideas, I threw this in although it's slightly off the track of what we had been thinking. But as good partners, we certainly found a way to incorporate it into the new line. This still might not be enough for you to see who this partner is, but stay focused as soon we'll be showing more...I think this is the most favorite thing I have been working on lately & they will look even better when my secret collaborative partner will add something to these...
Will need to buy one for myself that's for sure... might have to make 'don't touch me' though! :)

To know the idea behind the secret project, go read the first blogpost here. Can't wait to receive your guesses but think about it carefully 'cause you can only guess once! :)
