How to make a memo clip holder?

By now you must be getting tired of me talking about the craftparking fair in Maastricht... but I made another fun thing I'll be using on my table and I thought I would share it with you! :)
I bought little baskets and will put my items in there. But to show what's inside them, I made memo clip holders so I could clip one of the items on them together with the price tag. That way, people can easily see what's inside and how much it costs.
It's fun & easy to make and most probably you have all the materials at hand.
Here is what you need: plaster, water, plastic icecream container (great excuse to eat icecream), toilet paper tubes, clay, scissors, vinyl glue (white glue - can be wood glue too), wooden lollypop sticks, small and large clothes pegs.
Put with one wooden lollypop stick some glue at the top of the other.
Then put the little clothespeg on the stick and let them dry.
While the sticks dry, you can prepare the bottoms. Cut a paper toilet roll in half.
Add clay around the bottom so that the plaster we will poor into the tube later, can't escape.
If you don't have any clay around, look here for another method of making these.
Make some plaster.
Attach a large clothespin at the bottom of the wooden lollypop stick. This will make the stick rest on the paper toilet tube.
Poor some plaster into the paper toilet tube and put the wooden lollypop stick on top of the paper toilet tube so that the bottom part of the wooden stick sets in the plaster.
Let it set for about half an hour and then take away the toilet tube paper.
The memo clip holder is ready to use!
This is how it will look on my table.
I also made a large one to attach my cards on.
And here a little try out on how my table will look... on the floor! LOL :)
I'm debating if I should paint the wooden wine crates lime to add some color and make the feelings stand out more... any thoughts?

My friend Kerrin from Sigmosaics made some price tag holders inspired by this tutorial.
You just have to go and see them, they are amazingly cute! CLICK HERE!

  1. I'm not sick of hearing about your preparations! My suggestion for your display is to paint random crates in lime and leave others in the natural timber. I think all lime would be too much, and no lime is not enough. Just my thoughts...

  2. sweet :) I like the way you display your art :) - as for painting the wine crates lime: maybe just a few of them, not all :)

  9. The table try out looks great! I thought about a few lime crates too, but lime could get all the attention then, so not sure. Maybe you have some small boxes, cubes to put random on the table and those could be lime? As the crates are pretty big they could get a bit overwhelming.

  12. I agree with what some people have said, paint random crates. I think if they were all green it would be too much and too bright

  13. Mitsy, your booth trial is fantastic - I think it will be great! I agree w Star: maybe a few lime spots will spice it up, but huge lime boxes would draw attention away...

How I'd love to see you and your table in real life..... Please take a LOT of photos of you and other friend's table, so I can imagine myself there :-)

  16. looks brilliant - agree with the other comments via a via a splash of lovely lime here and there.

I've recently discovered nichrome wire which is brilliant if you need a wire that can withstand the kiln. I used it to make my own bead rack but now I'm thinking I could make little display items with clips at the top inspired by your idea.

  19. such a beautiful display!
I understand and i think i agree with other comments saying to paint random crates in lime.
possibly cute though to paint lime stripes on crates? maybe not all, maybe just a few random. its not quite as bold, and just a bit quirky and still has the beauty of the natural timber.

  21. This is such a great post! I, too, like the ideas of having just a few crates in lime not all, and also of having your logo! Perhaps you could have a mixture of lime logo on natural timber crates and inverse on others, i.e. natural timber logo on lime crates. A stain on the timber rather than opaque colour will give a softer effect. Good luck with the fair!!!

  25. it looks great mitsy! why not use your stencil on a few of those crates?
it will match your bags :)

  26. Maybe you could stain the crates instead of painting them that way the woodgrain still shows?

  27. Mitsy, I guess you already realize it by yourself, that you are genie ;)

  28. Everything looks great, and yes, I would paint the boxes lime for a bit of color. (But I love color, so perhaps I am biased)

  29. Good job Mitsy, you have been a busy bee!

I would leave the crates as they are but paint the clothes pegs and lollipop sticks lime instead, justto show little color here and there. I think wooden surface looks so naturally beautiful with your white feelings. Good luck with the fair!

  30. Hallo Mitzy
    I love your display!
I think the idea with smalllitte lime boxes combined with the big ones in natural color.
You could turn some of them around with the opening out and the feelings inside.

  33. Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments! Heartwarming!
I love so many of your ideas! I'll be pinching some here and there. Since I love bare wooden crates as well, I think I might play a bit with my logo & paint the memo clip holders lime. I think I'll do something with lime paper to add accents on a few so that it's not all that definite on the wood! :)

  34. I'd mix it up with some lime and plain. I wish I was close enough to come do a little in person browsing and buying
