The making of... curious

To make the feeling curious, I have a little template I use to transfer the 'keyhole' onto the feeling. I trace the template with a blunt pen. Then I cut out the sides and the hole. When the clay is still soft, the sides usually get a bit wonky so I use a thin piece of wood to make it even again. To finish it off, I use my paintbrush with a little bit of water. That last bit is the most intricate part of it all and practises my patience...

The making of... creative

When I first started doing ceramics, one of the first things I did was raiding my dad's tool cabinet. There are such interesting tools you can use to apply texture to pieces and this hole maker has given me much pleasure so far. I use it to make holes into ornaments but also to apply to the feeling creative. When I make 'creative', I usually make a few as it's easier to work in batches. I always start with the biggest circles and last I make the smallest ones.
I always apply my logo and a number on the bottom. Creative is a popular feeling, it's together with curious one of the most bought ones.
The images are a bit off color but that's to blame on the lousy weather...

Custom mouse feeling

A while back I made a OOAK series of deer and rabbits for my shop. They are much loved and only a few remain. Apparently it gives people ideas for other animals so I was asked to make a custom mouse. How fun and especially if the customer says 'that's exactly how I had pictured it in my mind' :)

Fired stress/balanced

Here is the fired stress/balanced feeling. It came out of the kiln today and is looking lovely.
So happy that it worked & I hope that the recipient of this feeling will be able to balance his/her stress too!

Feeling connected

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I spend some time here on my blog so I'm going to try to connect again after last months break.

No better way to do that with a custom piece I did the other day.
A very sweet woman asked me if I could help her with a wedding gift. She loved the feeling 'oneness' but wanted me to add a personal touch to it. As with all questions like these, I interrogate the customer and made her tell me more about the couple & their likes. After a few times back and forth e-mailing, she came up with the idea to use earphones as the couple both loves music. I was sold right away! What a fab idea & even more symbolic too to be connected by the wire of the earphones. :)
The wire is red because it's the color of love. Besides, an Ancient Chinese believe says
'An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place or circumstance. The red thread may stretch or tangle but it will never break.'
I saw this saying for the first time on Lisa's beautiful blog which is also her company name.
I added a lovely personal message on the bottom, the couples names & wedding date.
It will be hard to part with these dudes as they make me smile big time!

So glad to be back here! Things are not quite back to regular routines yet but slowly & surely it all falls in place. If you care to subscribe to my newsletter, feel free to do so. I write one every first friday of the month (that's tomorrow) & if you don't like it, you can unsubscribe at any time! :)

Feeling native

I collected these feathers last fall.
I put 'em away & knew they would serve a purpose sometime.
In the beginning of January, I got a request to make a native feeling.
When I saw the drawing, I knew the feathers would add the perfect touch.
But of course I couldn't find 'em so I had to show the example with an eucalyptus leaf.Last thursday we went for a walk in search of feathers but of course, it's not the season to find feathers. So this weekend I searched high and low and yay, I found 'em.
It looks so much better then a eucalyptus leaf.
He's called Injun Joe.
And so is his brother...
So two Injun Joe's.
They look alike but they are a bit different due to the handmade nature.
I hope they will be loved as I loved making 'em! :)

How to use a mould?

A quick how-to on how to work with a mould.
There are numerous ways, I'm just showing you mine... :)
My apologies for the bad quality of the pictures, I was too lazy to get the tripod out... :(
Put some clay between two liners and roll it flat.
Cut the piece in two and press it into the mould. Cut away the edges.Make the edges rough with a spiked spatula.Put some clay pulp on the rough edges and close the mould. After about 20 minutes open the mould and take the feeling out.Smoothen the surfaces and put an airhole in the bottom before firing.Tada: the feeling is now ready to become a REAL feeling.
What will this one be? To be continued...
Feel free to let me know how you feel, it might become one of the 99 feelings...
