Hoera Hip Handwerk

Porcelain labels saying 'sweet' and 'just because'. I made more labels for a fair I'll be attending in about 2 weeks. The fair is on 'open monument day' in the fashion museum in Hasselt.
It's on Sunday September 11th from 10AM until 6PM and the entrance is free.
There will be a variety of sellers with handmade goodies plus there is a lovely new exhibition called 'prints' to see too.
If you have been curious about the new jewellery line that Anna (LilaRubyKing) and I are about to launch, you can come and see it for real then. :) Hope to see you there!

I spy with my eye...

Something yellow...
It's a huge bathtub duck.
It's designed by Florentijn Hofman and has returned back to our city after it was vandalised while being on tour through the province. They deconstructed the heavy vandalised duck and designer Michaël Verheyden made handbags from the pieces.
A new and more sturdy duck was made and is now back at the yachting area in our town.
The big duck will stay in it's spot until the 10th of October so if you're in the area and want to smile, don't hesitate to pass by the kanaalkom - you can't miss it! :)
Oh, and it's ony a hop, skip & jump away from the fashionmuseum. The fair there yesterday went really well. It was superbusy and I was supertired at the end of the day. I didn't take any pictures this time & I didn't even have time to browse the stands as I was alone and couldn't abandon my table.

Feeling religious?

Yesterday I went to the fashionmuseum to drop off our collaborative work for the upcoming exhibition. While showing and explaining a bit, the person in charge asked me if I had any religious mini-art-feelings that would fit the theme for the exhibition: Devout/Divine - Fashion vs. Religion
It will be a compilation of creations of national and international designers. The expo examines how religion is integrated in their work. It will not show a traditional overview of historical religious garments and textile, but focuses on the relationship between contemporary fashion and religion. Original interpretations of burqa's, a praying carpet transformed into a handbag, rosaries and habits remodelled as catwalk ensembles and Haute Couture nuns are just a few examples.

Oh man, when I get challenged, I can't ignore so I told her I would try to finish something before the opening this Friday. I postponed some paperwork and I got to work fast as I had to come up with a few religous feelings and they needed to be made and fired right away. This is what is cooking in the kiln right now... a special series made for the Fashionmuseum.

Feeling Catholic
Feeling Boeddhist
Feeling Jewish
Feeling muslim?
Feeling Hindu?
Now I pray they won't explode in the kiln... ;)

Disclaimer:
These are my interpretations of these religions. I hope you are not offended by any of these. It's my way of 'picturing' some obvious icons about the religion and is in no way meant to hurt anyones feelings. Thank you.

Hoera, hip handwerk!

Yesterday it was open monuments day in Belgium. This means that lots of museums an monuments are open to the public. The city I live in has a fashion museum and runs great exhibitions. The exhibition this time is called 'in her shoes' and the amount of shoes they host can compete with Imelda Marcos' collection I think.

In the main hall of the museum Kristien & Kim organised this cozy fair called 'Hoera, Hip Handwerk' (Hurry, Hip Handmade).
For people who came to visit the museum, it was a nice surprise to see all the colorful creations in the main hall & enjoy the lovely atmosphere. What a beautiful location to have a fair.
Since the hall couldn't host many stands, there were not so many participants.
Want to walk around the fair with me? (I forgot to take a few business cards of some participants so I'll add links to their websites later on)
